Another week down the tubes! The weekend should be interesting. Since the last time I posted, I finished framing the porch shown on labor day's post. We still have some finish work to do, but the project is coming closer to being finished. Here are some pix of the work in progress.

Happy Labor Day!
I hope everyone had a good labor day. Even though it is a US holiday, I think the world is full of hard working people. I spent the day with a friend working on his new front porch. We finished the forms for the concrete. Hopefully the concrete will be placed by Weds. I've attached a picture of the footer strategy we're using. Typical double rebar wired to vertical stabilizers. The forms are 2x6's connected with pocket screws. It creates a strong joint without the hassle of toenailing nails. It takes a little longer to cut the pocket holes, but with a Kreg jig, it is really easy to get good results.

first blog
Greetings everyone,
This is my first blog at this site, but I have done a few on mySpace already. I am poor at being consistent with my posting, but I will try to do better here. I am interested in many disciplines, so this will feature many different trains of thought. Among my primary interests are do-it-yourself projects, home improvement, technology, alternative energy, mapping, travel and photography. I also enjoy discussing outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, camping, canoeing, and boat building. I look forward to the interaction we may have.
